I was sent a copy of The Assistants by Camille Perri from @BookSparks in exchange for my honest review. #BestSummerEver #SRC2016
Tina Fontana is an executive assistant to Robert, a billionaire executive with a multinational media conglomerate. This job is by no means a glorious one. Tina has a large student loan debt and feels stuck in this dead end job. She’s so tired of being a slave to this rich man. She does everything for this man; slices his limes for his drinks, pours his coffee, and books his travel!
Until one day there’s a technical error with her boss’s expense report and she receives an expense check that is large enough to pay off her student loan debt. She knows this check could change her life and her boss probably wouldn’t even miss such a small amount of money. She cashes the check and pays off her student loan debt, but not without a price because another employee gets wind of it and wants in on the scheme. Before she knows it, there are multiple assistants that want in and want to pay off their student loans as well.
The Assistants is a well written book that has you cheering on the overeducated and underpaid women who after all this time are still asking the questions “Why are we still the Assistants?” and “Why are we still underpaid?”.
